Responsibilities: User Research, UX Design, UI Design
Date: September 2019
Team: iOS developer, Full-Stack developer, 2 Business analysts
Project Context: REMOTE GLOBAL HACKATHON I participated in a Global Hackathon where the theme was working with people around the world. I was part of a team of three based in Monterrey and our remote team of 2 was based in Chicago.
We had two days to come up with a digital solution using a low-code application development platform called Mendix to solve a problem. We had carte blanche on the topic and two days to come up with something.
Users: LOOKING OUT FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD We targeted small food-based business owners.
Process: SQUEEZE THOSE IDEAS OUT We brainstormed ideas. We landed on solving the “Out-of-stock” problem of small food-based business owners with other business stock. SupplyMe is an app that connects people that have or need products with others who would benefit from these.
In our case, this user needs canned tomatoes. So he sets up a request in the SupplyMe app.
Somebody who has extra canned tomatoes sees this request and decides to sell some from his inventory. This way the user can still profit from this extra product, reducing waste and costs.
WHAT HAPPENED & WHAT I LEARNED We came in 2nd place out of 6 other projects.
Accenture US Leadership really liked our idea and turned the use case into a client offering for the Chicago office. While working remotely was seamless, it did take a while to reach a consensus on what we were going to solve.
I learned about low-code platforms and got to see 5 other great projects created with this tool. I really enjoyed this quick project and I got to use my problem-solving and design skills in a different way.
