Users:
NewBe was targeted at new Accenture employees as our main users.
Scope & Contraints:
I had a month and $1000 USD to assemble a team, develop the concept and build a working prototype of NewBe.
I also had to balance it with my client project at the time and daily responsibilities.
Process:
First, I made sure my teammate, a fellow UX/UI Designer, was available. Then I looked and found an XR Developer.
Afterwards we facilitated two workshops with about 40 new employees with different skill backgrounds.
Some of our key findings were:
87% of new employees feel lost during their first week
82% of new employees feel embarrassed to ask questions
40% of new employees were assigned a buddy for the first day but couldn’t make it
90% of new employees didn’t know their leader
The team and I sat down and brainstormed a list of requirements and features we would like for NewBe. We also noticed that time was tight, and I knew we couldn’t get every feature up and running, so I had a plan B. I proposed a short promotional video that showed NewBe’s potential future features.
We agreed and after clustering and prioritizing we had an MVP. The main working features would be the chatbot and indoor navigation for the finals. We sketched out our storyboard, created a happy path and went off.
Me and my co-worker started sketching out ideas, that soon turned into wireframes. We also had recurring meetings with our XR developer to make sure what we were proposing was feasible. Once we had the green light, I started working on the visual design.
Augmented Reality helped improve the experience by guiding the user in the office.
NewBe’s main characteristics:
NPL
A greater understanding and for a better human-centered experience
Augmented Reality
Personalized guidance and useful information in and around the office
Artificial Intelligence
Model asks and adds new answers that aren’t in the original database
Full Integration
Connected to e-mail, agendas, profiles, etc. for a complete UX
Scalable for others
Ability to scale to different industries and businesses
We wanted to be able to integrate NewBe with the company’s online office tools. This way NewBe could schedule meetings, send reminders for company policies or events, contact someone to help you with a specific topic, etc.
I also added a satisfaction survey. I thought it would be a good way to measure NewBe’s performance and success. NewBe would periodically ask for feedback to make sure users are satisfied with their experience.
Since time was short to develop a completely functional prototype, we created a storyboard and script for a promo video that could show the NewBe’s potential. I shot and edited the video myself and thought it came out great.
We pitched at the Mexico finals and were super excited to learn that NewBe was going to participate in the Latin American finals in Recife, Brasil!
All three of us presented NewBe in Brasil and came in 2nd place.
Although we didn’t make it to the next round, I was extremely proud of making it that far.
The prototype was added to various Accenture Innovation hubs and is part of their demo offerings for potential clients.
NewBe created a selling opportunity for a project in the Financial Industry and is still going strong.
I think it’s safe to say that I had quite a first year in the company. NewBe was a great project to get noticed by the Innovation team. It also inadvertently created an XR offering within the Monterrey office.
It’s one of my favorite projects. It took us so far and it gave me momentum to be where I am now. It helped me see business opportunities in a whole new light. It showed me that research and sweat are worth it in the end.
