This was my first hackathon in Accenture, the theme was AI for Customers.
I was part of a team of 5 people who worked at the company, all from different technological backgrounds. We had two days to come up with a solution using the given datasets.
We created a smart broker who used AI to find users personalized real estate recommendations. We called it FindApt.
Users:
Our end-user was adult professionals that had active social media accounts and were looking for a new home.
Process:
When the Hackathon started, I had no idea how to use or even read datasets. Two of my teammates explained and then asked me:
So...How can we use this information to provide a customer a solution to a problem.
Talk about being vague.
As we started the brainstorming solutions, we noticed we had a huge dataset which included demographic information, social media likes and recent searches of 10,000 users.
As a team we decided to create a model that would take that information and cross it with the user's input and Zillow to find neighborhoods suitable for a user’s specific lifestyle.
As for the user experience, we wanted to make it hassle-free. We kept the input as minimal as possible (city, time, budget) to make the journey easy while catering to a human-centered experience. For example: If my interests include art, craft beer and design, it would recommend neighborhoods that have museums and bars within a set mile radius.
The judges loved our solution, but our AI model didn’t work. So that was a bust, but we had a lot of fun in the process and I got to learn how to read datasets and the basics of how AI makes decisions.
This hackathon inspired me to take the Python for Machine Learning Course given by an AI Specialist in the company.
I learned so much and even though FindApt didn’t make it at the end, I think it was a great idea and loved how it turned out.
